  1. Discuss the role(s) of women in the 1950s as portrayed in the movie. How are they different from the view of Katherine Watson?
The roles of women were supposed to go to college if they could be able to go. But also they were supposed to get married and tend to their husbands needs just be a stay at home wife all day.Such as take care of the kids all day cook clean etc. That was the image of many women back then except for some few. One such was Katherine Watson she belied that women shouldn't be defined by society. She believed that women could be who ever they wanted or do whatever they wanted. She wanted them to think outside the box for them to all be individually different and not be defined by what society says.

  1. Betty's marriage to Spencer – do you think she was happy? Note her mother's refusal to let her stay with her. Why?
Betty was not happy to be with Spencer she was unhappy and just trying to do what was right according to society. Her mother was confining her to what she wanted and telling her what was right instead of letting her do what she wanted. She wanted Betty to be just like her i believe that her mother wasn't happy either by the way she was acting. Thats why Betty ended up divorcing Spencer and breaking what society thought was right and doing what she wanted instead.
